DLP televisions or digital light processing televisions offer one of many newer technologies available to the shopping public. But with so many choices, it is easy to get confused about where to spend your money, and what products to buy.

If you are interested in buying a DLP television you may want to explore the features available and compare them to other television technology. DLP televisions offer compatibility with the new high definition or HDTV technology. You can also get a DVI connection, and enhanced audio quality features, as well as parental controls, and a digital cable card slot, a high definition tuner that eliminates the need for a separate receiver, and many other options.  

DLP does have a rainbow effect visible to some viewers and this can be annoying if you are particularly sensitive to the phenomenon. When you look away from the set, your eyes will perceive a brief flash of an array of colors. But unlike other television technologies, DLP television does not suffer from the ‘burn in’ effect. Burn in occurs when an image is displayed on the screen for a period of time after it is broadcast, like a photographic overlay on the continuing broadcast.

When you compare DLP television to other technologies like plasma, LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon), and LCD (liquid crystal display) which some prefer for video game compatibility, you will find that DLP offers consistent excellence. It is considered by experts to have the best picture quality of the four offerings, though some people prefer the richer tones of plasma or the brighter images of LCD. LCOS offers image quality to rival DLP but it has not gained the same popularity among buyers.  

The bottom line for television technology purchase is to go to a store and compare the prices, features and display quality. Some people are much pickier when it comes to image resolution and they are willing to pay for the best. For others, a moderate image quality is perfectly acceptance in exchange for a lower price. Since these systems can cost a lot, price will likely be a significant consideration when you shop.
